The European perspective of Albania - Perceptions and realities 2020

This publication of the Albanian Institute for International Studies (AIIS) is produced in the framework of the project “The EU's perspective in the Western Balkans: a realistic look into the future" supported by Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung (HSS).
This survey came at a crucial time of  the Albanian EU accession process, namely soon after The European Council agreed to open negotiation talks for Albania.  The publications summarizes the perceptions of Albanian citizens towards the European Union, explains progress factors and motivations and concludes with policy reccomandations. 

Albania’s Foreign Policy: An Outlook for the Future

This publication of the Albanian Institute for International Studies (AIIS) is produced in the framework of the project “Albania’s bilateral relations: foreign policy challenges and opportunities” supported by Hanns-Seidel-Stiftung (HSS). With an overview by Klaus Fiesinger on Albania's bilateral relations with its neighbor countries, the pulication comprises three research papers, authored by Albert Rakipi, Ilir Kalemaj and Ledion Krisafi - each analyzing the relations of Albania with Serbia, Kosovo and North Macedonia.

Radicalization in Albania: Searching for Ideological and Structural Roots

The project "Radicalization in Albania: Searching for Ideological and Structural Roots" consists of a phenomenological study that seeks to analyse the ideological and structural roots of religious radicalization in post-Communist Albania to determine the changes from the traditional tolerant Islam practiced by Albanian Muslims.

Assessment of risks on national security / the capacity of state and society to react: Violent Extremism and Religious Radicalization in Albania

This report presents an in-depth analysis of violent extremism and religious radicalization as a national and international phenomenon. A comparative approach will be adopted in assessing the international and regional dynamics of this phenomenon. In turn, this report will provide a comprehensive understanding of the socio-economic, ideological and other factors that drive the radicalization of Albanian citizens, as well as the capacity of government and society to combat extremism.

Albanians and the European Social Model: Towards a redefinition of the social contract

This survey tries to map the general attitudes of Albanian citizens towards the state, its institutions, public services, the public versus private provision of services, as well as outlines citizens’ main attitudes towards the welfare state, social solidarity, the extent of the universal provision of services, etc. 

The survey is important for three reasons: 

Albania in the next ten years – Politics, Economy, Society - Perceptions”

Albania in the Next Ten Years marks the conclusion of a twostage project entitled Twenty Years After: Rethinking Democracy and the State in Albania. The aim of the project was to gauge the perceptions of the Albanian public on the period in Albanian history commonly referred to as the ‘transition,’ as well as to understand Albanians’ expectations about the future.

Albanian Greek relations from the eyes of the Albanian public

Perceptions 2013. This study published in March 2014, with the support of Friedrich Ebert Stiftung in Albania, tried to capure the perceptions and their implications on policy and discourse by objective research. The report published both in Albania and English summarizes the findings from the nationwide poll carried out in Albania and in Greece, gauging people's perceptions of the current relations between Albania and Greeece and potentials for the future.
